Smolevichy Forestry has an area of 52,922 ha, including covered by forest – 46,277 ha. The forestry consists of 7 forest districts – Volma, Drachkovo, Zhodino, Klennick, Smolevichy, Usyazh, Yurievo. More that 300 employees work at the forestry.
Coniferous forests occupy an area of 34,442 ha, hardwood deciduous – 910 ha, softwood deciduous – 10,646 ha. An average age of forests – 53, an average yield class (indicator of forest quality) -1.4
The forestry area in hydrological aspect belongs to the Berezino river system. Between villages Mgle and Yurievo the right bank of the Usyazha river joins a vast swampy area, where there are still 3 relict lakes –Velikoe, Maloe and Bezimyannoe. There is also a relict lake Sudobl in the district. Reservoir “Volma” is made on the base of the Volma river.
On the territory of the forestry and in the district where it’s situated there are specially protected objects . The biological preserve of the state significance “Pekalinskiy” was created in 1996 (on the ground of the district executive committee’s decision) to preserve valuable forest formations with a complex of rare and endanger species of plants and animals, listed in the Red Book of The Republic of Belarus. Hunting, lighting campfires, parking cars in the inappropriate places are prohibited on the preserve area. |
